Canon EOS Rebel T3
The brand new Canon EOS Rebel T3 is Canon’s most basic model in its range of DSLRs now, replacing the already two-years-old Canon EOS Rebel XS. This all new entry level DSLR from Canon sports several user-friendly and more than advanced features that are perfect for the beginner DSLR user and yet keep the more sophisticated users happy.
Design
The Canon T3 is a lightweight camera considering it is made mostly of plastic. However, it manages to avoid looking and feeling cheap with its solid build quality.
Just as its predecessors, it is a compact camera whose size is loved by women and even professional photographers who would love this camera as an alternative.
While it might be just a tad larger than the Canon EOS Rebel XS, 4mm wider, 2mm taller and 16mm thicker, it is still a most comfortable camera to hold and carry around with its sleeker and rounder look.
The Canon T3 sports a slightly rubbery grip just like its predecessor and although there is no infrared remote control port or depth-of-field preview button on the camera, it is not something beginners would miss.
The flash release button has been moved to the between the power switch and the Control dial on the right side of the camera. Buttons on the back of the camera have also been moved. The Menu and Disp buttons which used to be on the left of the viewfinder are now on the right of the 2.7-inch LCD screen. However, there is now a most conveniently placed, dedicated Live View/Movie Record button on the right side of the LCD screen. A Quick Menu button for faster access to frequently changed settings and the Playback and Delete buttons have been moved around to more convenient positions.
Features
The all new Canon EOS Rebel T3 sports a 12.6-megapixel sensor and a DIGIC 4 image processor, allowing users to capture 14-bit RAW images. Users are also able to capture 3 frames per second when shooting continuously in JPEG mode and 2 fps in RAW format.
Its other features include 9-point focusing with a central cross-type f/5.6 focus point with 8 single-axis points, Peripheral Illumination Correction, Canon’s latest metering system with a 63-zone iFCL (Intelligent Focus, Color and Luminance metering) sensor, Auto Lighting Optimizer (ALO) and a 100 to 6400 ISO range.
Armed with a viewfinder with 0.8x magnification, Live View mode and a Feature Guide that describes the option the user has just selected, this camera is just the thing for all users starting out on the DSLR.
Bottom Line
The Canon EOS Rebel T3 is an excellent entry level DSLR with a most comprehensive feature set that would have even the professional photographers smile with satisfaction. Its good handling characteristics, solid build and good image quality certainly make this the perfect recommendation for a wide range of users.
